Amity Community Services is hosting Motivational Interviewing and Brief Intervention training through their online portal. You will be prompted to create a free account on their training portal and will be able to access the training once signed in.

This training provides you with useful knowledge and skills to undertake Brief Interventions as part of your day-to-day work in the alcohol and other drug field.

You will receive a foundational introduction to Motivational Interviewing and have access to different video-demonstrations and practical tools. This course includes a downloadable workbook, various handouts and links to evidence-based resources.

It is a fully funded workforce development course and therefore available to you at no cost.

COMPLETING THIS COURSE WILL HELP YOU:

  • Describe the core components of brief interventions and implement key frameworks for delivering them.
  • Define Motivational Interviewing, its underlying ‘spirit’, and core micro-skills.
  • Explain the value of stage-based interventions and match treatment strategies accordingly.
  • Choose evidence-based screening tools to measure the presence and severity of a person’s alcohol and/or drug use and understand how the results can guide the next stage of assistance.
  • Apply best practice, evidence-informed therapeutic tools to support brief interventions.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is designed to support healthcare professionals to undertake brief interventions, using a motivational interviewing approach, when working with people experiencing harms from their alcohol and/or other drug use.
