28 Mar. 2022 1 Apr. 2022
Where:
Alice Springs & Darwin

The Association of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies NT (AADANT) is pleased to offer a two-day training opportunity to the NT AOD Sector.

360Edge will deliver the two-day workshop with a focus on motivational interviewing on day one and brief interventions on day 2.

The how and why of MI

Participants will gain core motivational interviewing skills and a deep understanding of the spirit and philosophy of motivational interviewing to adapt it to any client or situation. Motivational interviewing is an essential skill for alcohol and other drug workers that has powerful impacts on change. We use demonstrations, clinical anecdotes and practice so participants walk away with real skills they can apply immediately.

Key learning outcomes:

• Find out what really motivates people to change so you know exactly what to target in treatment
• Understand motivational interviewing theory and processes so you have a solid framework to work from
• Build and strengthen core motivational interviewing skills and strategies so you know how to adapt it to any situation

This is a core skills workshop suitable for new practitioners and as a refresher for experienced and advanced practitioners

Brief interventions in alcohol and other drug treatment

In this workshop, participants will learn and practice a range of evidence based brief interventions, from brief opportunistic interventions to brief therapy. These interventions are core skills for alcohol and other drug workers and can be used as part of ongoing treatment or as a stand-alone intervention. They draw on motivational interviewing as an interaction style.

Key Learning Outcomes

• Understand different types of brief interventions including screening
• Identifying opportunities to utilise brief interventions
• Improve skills on delivering brief interventions
• Learn ways to adapt alcohol and other drug work into brief interventions

This is a core skills workshop suitable for new practitioners and as a refresher for experienced and advanced practitioners
