Nicole Hewlett

Based in Meanjin on the sovereign and unceded lands and waters of the Turrbul and Yuggera peoples, Nicole is a proud Palawa mother of two daughters, works in a knowledge translation roles at La Trobe University and as an Aboriginal Research Liaison advisor at Mater UQ. Previously, Nic was a member of the national research team appointed to revise the Australian Guidelines on the Assessment and Diagnosis of FASD and as part of this revision, led the development and knowledge translation of Australia's first Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Indigenous Framework. Nic co-authored the book Learning from 50 years of Aboriginal Alcohol Programs: Beating the Grog in Australia and from 2016 – 2021, Nicole was a committee member of the NHMRC Alcohol Working Group, appointed to update Australia’s alcohol drinking guidelines. Nic is passionate about drawing on the profound strengths of Aboriginal cultures, Sovereignty and local ways of knowing, being and doing to support healing pathways that bring genuine and meaningful benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families at a grassroots level.
