Volunteer call out for DanceWize trial at BASSINTHEGRASS 2021

Calling all festival heads, unofficial trip sitter & drug knowledge wizards!  Do you enjoy going to festivals and parties? Do you want to be part of a peer-based harm reduction program that improves the safety of your community at festivals?

A trial of DanceWize is being implemented at BASSINTHEGRASS 2021  and we need your help! We are looking for 35 volunteers to form our peer led team at BASSINTHEGRASS.  -

You may have seen Dancewize in other states- NSW and VIC – at an event you've been to or maybe you know someone who's benefited from their services.   DW uses peer education to reduce drug and alcohol related harms at parties, festivals and doofs. Volunteers host care spaces, chat to peers about safer drug use, and distribute a range of health resources.

DW has operated in Vic since 1991 (check them out here) and NSW since 2017 (check them out here) – with incredible teams of skilled and dedicated volunteers – impacting and assisting thousands of people – and we want something similar here!

What you need:

  • First aid certificate (If you don’t have one we will organise for you to get one for free)
  • Working with Children Card/Ochre card (if you don’t have one we will pay for it)
  • Non-judgemental attitude and a willingness to engage with BASSINTHEGRASS attendees who may be at risk from their alcohol and/or drug use
  • Lived experience of drug use and of attending festivals/events
  • An understanding of harm reduction or a willingness to learn

What we will give you:

  • AOD training through e-learning modules
