Lockdown lifted for Greater Darwin and Katherine, Restrictions announced

*Update: as of Friday 20 August at 12PM, Katherine and Tindal are now out of lockdown and the restrictions below apply to both the Greater Darwin and Katherine Regions.

The Association of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies NT (AADANT) is pleased to inform the Chief Minister has announced lockdown will be lifted from 12PM Thursday 19 August for all regions excluding Katherine. If travelling through Katherine for the next 24 hours, NT Police prefer you do not stop in Katherine.

Lockdown will be extended for the following areas for 24 hours (Thursday 19 August from 12PM-Friday 20 August 12PM):

  • Municipality of Katherine
  • Tindal

As there are still 12 people to locate in Katherine who were at the Woolworths store with the infectious person, lockdown must be extended.

The restrictions are as follows for the next week until Thursday 26 August 12PM:

  • Masks are mandatory outside the home and where 1.5 metres of physical distancing cannot be maintained, this includes children 12 years of age and over
  • You must wear a mask when getting takeaway, you do not need to wear your mask while seated and eating or drinking
  • If you are travelling to other locations in the Territory you must wear a mask for the next 7 days
  • Gyms, markets and close contact sport will not be allowed for another 7 days
  • Gyms may operate outdoor, physically distanced classes for the next 7 days
  • Visitors in private homes are limited to 10 visitors excluding the residents of that household

In addition to these restrictions, please be advised of the new hotel quarantine policy. If you have left hotel quarantine and are travelling to the NT, you will need to have a COVID-19 test as soon as possible and quarantine until a negative test is received.

Schools are open as normal from Friday 20 August.

Sydney and Canberra airports are declared hotspots for the purpose of travel to the NT as of 5PM Thursday 19 August.

COVID-19 disaster relief payments are available for workers who are living in the lockdown areas and have lost work and wages due to the lockdown. More information can be found on the MyGov website.
