FASD in practice: what the evidence means for services in the NT
Elizabeth Elliott is Professor of Paediatrics, University of Sydney, Director, NSW FASD Assessment Service, Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and Director, FASD Research Australia NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence. She developed the Australian Guide to FASD Diagnosis, leads FASD Hub and FASD Register, contributed to NHMRC/WHO guidelines on alcohol use in pregnancy, and played a key role in the National FASD Action Plan.
In this webinar, Elizabeth will provide information from Australia on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), a complex condition resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure and outline governments' response. We will unpack FASD, how it presents and its impact across the lifespan, and explain why early identification and intervention are critical. Through highlighting the latest research shaping clinical practice and policy, we will offer insights into emerging approaches to care and the implications for services in the Northern Territory.
