Youth Forums Project Update

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19 (corona virus) and the resultant safety conditions, the country has gone through significant changes to the way we live over the past couple of weeks.  Many of the services in our region are having to modify delivery models in response to working in a level of isolation, focusing on frontline health concerns and as such we have made the decision to postpone the work planned for the youth forums program until the situation allows for effective delivery of this project.

In response to the current and emerging needs, our Project Worker, Britt Guy, will be refocusing energy on providing support to services that work with young people who use alcohol and other drugs (AOD) during this time.

As with many services, the AADANT team will be working from home for the time being. We know that during times like this, the most severe impacts of COVID-19 are likely to be amongst the most vulnerable members of our community. We are committed to doing everything we can to support our young people and AOD services at this time.

If there is anything we can do to assist you in your work during this time, Britt can be contacted by email at project2@aadant.org.au or on 0499 980 600. Please note that Britt works Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Britt will be facilitating fortnightly Zoom service meetings for AOD services working with young people across the NT with a focus on providing a place to connect, support each other and to feed your needs and concerns through AADANT for representation to government. We are hoping to make this a place to articulate challenges, and collectively problem solve. Meetings will be held every second Wednesday at 10AM. Link here

We will also be working on providing resources to support your work including:

  • Updates on what other youth services and recreational providers are doing within your regions.
  • National best practice insight for working with clients during COVID 19
  • Working with you to create online and physical resources and messaging to support your work.

AADANT is working to maintain a repository of practical resources on our website to support services in response to COVID-19 which can be found here.
