Primary objective

Provide leadership in the facilitation of stakeholder engagement and alcohol harm reduction planning activities in communities across the Northern Territory, with particular focus on the Tiwi Islands and Arnhem Region.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Ensure alcohol harm and demand reduction activities in communities are aligned to NT alcohol policy frameworks and to objectives in the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Aboriginal Investment with the Australian Government.
  2. Consult, negotiate, and share information between government, non-government organisations, Aboriginal communities, local business and other community stakeholders to enhance decision making and action to address alcohol related harms.
  3. Contribute to the strategic direction, coordination and support for government and non-government organisations involved in alcohol harm reduction initiatives.
  4. Working as part of a team, coordinate the development and implementation of community alcohol plans (CAP’s) and community led solutions including alcohol action initiatives across the region.
  5. Provide high level advice, project management and regular reporting on CAP’s and community led solutions.
  6. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential

  1. Demonstrated community development and leadership experience in collaborative project management involving culturally and geographically diverse stakeholders.
  2. Proven ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders; and to effectively liaise, consult, and work in a multi-agency/ organisational environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to strategically analyse problems, assess and manage risk, develop solutions and deliver timely and quality results in complex settings.
  4. Demonstrated experience in developing responses to alcohol related harms in a remote context.
  5. Excellent oral and written skills and a demonstrated ability to negotiate, plan, prepare and implement community led projects, including agreements and reports.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of best practice in public administration grant and procurement principles.
  7. Ability to travel to, and work, in cross-culturally complex remote locations, including manual operation of a 4WD vehicle.

Desirable

  1. Knowledge of alcohol policy frameworks and harm reduction measures in place in the NT.
  2. Qualifications in community development, project management or other relevant discipline.
